Favorite Fruit Desserts
Homespun fruit desserts layered with flaky pastry or crowned with a crisp topping are always seasonal favorites. The good thing is that these heartwarming dessert recipes come in
an abundance of styles - one to fit every taste and level of
culinary expertise.
Cobblers: Usually defined as a fruit dessert made with a drop biscuit topping. Some believe that the name comes from the rough “cobbled” effect created by dropping the soft dough over fruit. However, there are almost as many variations on the cobbler theme as there are cooks. Besides using various fruits, there are also a variety of ways to make the crust – from biscuit dough to different variations of pourable batters.
Crisps, Crumbles and Crunches: Generally defined as sweetened fruit desserts baked with a crumbly topping of flour, butter and sugar. Nuts, oats, spices and even cookie and cake crumbs are often included. A crunch is defined as fruit baked between layers of buttered crumbs and served in a square pan.
As is true with many regional foods, the names of certain recipes may vary from place to place, but the uncomplicated essence of these delicious desserts remains the same. In Britain, a crumble is a crisp or crunch with oatmeal.
